As Director of Research, Laura leads Early Milestones’ efforts to study health and wellbeing among young children in Colorado from prenatal to age eight. Laura’s prior research has examined the root causes of health disparities across the life course, beginning in pregnancy and early life. Her work highlights how structural racism, poverty, and family inequality affect the health and wellbeing of children as they grow into adults.

Laura is a quantitative sociologist who specializes in population health. She earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from Rice University and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Houston. The National Science Foundation has recognized her work on family and racial health inequities.

Laura currently lives in sunny Tucson, AZ with her husband and three kids. She enjoys hiking through the Sonoran Desert, occasionally renovating a vintage Airstream, running with her dogs, and family dance parties.
