“It wasn’t a study of quality — we weren’t looking at individual cases and weren’t looking at outcomes — but we wanted to better understand how much and the sort of maternal care family physicians are providing at rural hospitals.”
The University of Colorado School of Medicine is developing programming to recruit and train students interested in providing maternal health services in rural settings. A study by the University found that family physicians delivered babies in 67% of 185 rural hospitals surveyed across 10 states. In 27% of rural hospitals, they were the only physicians delivering babies.
