Opinion: Child Care in Colorado was Ready for Reinvention, COVID-19 Now Demands It

“If we are to avoid returning to the status quo, we must change how we think about and invest in child care. We must use smart data to match families who need care with providers who can deliver that care. We must identify and address child care deserts to meet the needs of families in areas that need it most.”

It was the rapid-response teamwork between Colorado’s public and private sectors that ensured essential workers in Colorado were supported with child care during the COVID-19 pandemic. This opinion highlights the work of the Emergency Child Care Collaborative and calls for a statewide effort to build a stronger early childhood ecosystem as we emerge from the crisis.
