State lawmakers spent the final days of the 2020 legislative session considering a bill that would put a new nicotine tax on the ballot in November. One of the primary goals of this tax is to fund statewide pre-kindergarten at no cost to parents, but the income could also relieve some of the budget shortfalls created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
