Jefferson County, home to one of the largest school districts in the state, is weighing three options to replace current K-3 reading curricula. Much like other large districts in Denver and Douglas County, Jeffco schools use a wide range of programs to teach reading to young students, and many of these methods have been discredited in recent years. Each of the three options being reviewed by Jeffco leadership would bring the county’s schools into compliance with a 2019 state law requiring that K-3 reading programs must be backed by science.
