“And that was a record for us, and now to do 40,000 in one week, it’s just blowing our minds a bit,” said Jen Peifer, the manager of operations for the district’s Nutrition Services Department.
The Douglas County School District (DCSD) gave out approximately 44,000 free meals during the entire summer of 2019. This year, having launched a free meal program that offers both breakfast and lunch to provide family support during the pandemic, DCSD is giving out that many meals in as little as one week.
