“At the very least for these unlicensed child care facilities and providers, if they have done something terrible and the state knows about it, we need to create a system where parents can easily access that information.”
The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) has established a task force to evaluate how it handles investigations into violations by unlicensed child care providers. While many many home-based child care providers (e.g., family, friends, and neighbors) are able to receive legal exemption from needing a license under specific guidelines, there is growing concern about the health and safety of children in the care of providers who are operating outside of CDHS regulation.
